In this paper, two antenna arrays with mixed connection (capacitive and with microstrip lines) are designed and implemented, on the base of a rectangular antenna with cuts in its corners; designed at 2.4 GHz. In one of the arrays, there was also implemented a shorting pin in each parasitic patch. From simulation results, it is observed that in the array with shorting pins the gain value is increased, while the other antenna shows a more disperse radiation pattern. In the practical tests, it is clearly observed the influence of the architectonic distribution of the CIICAp building in the Wi-Fi signal reception, as well as the antennas location. From these tests, it can be concluded that the antenna array with shorting pins also shows a lightly better performance. The comparison among the antenna arrays and the commercial antennas of the router demonstrated improvements in the reception in almost all analyzed places in the CIICAp building when the prototypes with shorting pins are used.
