Fuzzy model for visual inspection of corroded ferrous-metal surfaces

A fuzzy model was developed, aimed to assist in the diagnosis of metallic surfaces subjected to corrosive processes, such as pitting and/or galvanic corrosion. The macroscopic visual variables present in some corrosive phenomena were considered as the input parameters. Those variables were established based on ASTM specifications, ASM handbooks volume 13 y 13 A and, published papers. As a whole, in order to recognize up to five corrosive processes, five variables were selected as input parameters. The fuzzy model was validated taking into account engineering failure analysis research papers photographs and, positives results were obtained.
